The Weeks of the German Language in Nicosia.








In November we will be celebrating the Weeks of the German Language. Within this framework the Austrian Embassy Nicosia will present two new feature films as well as a series of short films. The films which will be shown in Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos are dedicated to Austrian literature and the life of important and world acclaimed Austrian writers Stefan Zweig and Ingeborg Bachmann. The short films were nominated at the Austrian Film Awards 2017 and will be screened at the ARTos Foundation in Nicosia.

The first screening of a series of German speaking films which will be presented within this framework is the Austrian biographical 2016 film “STEFAN ZWEIG: Farewell to Europe” by Maria Schrader, on Mon. , 06 November, at 21:00 at Cine Studio followed by Wine reception, held by the Austrian Ambassador Dr. Eva Maria Ziegler.

• Mon. 20 Nov. 2017 at Skala Theater in Larnaca at 20:30
• Tue. 28. Nov. 2017 at Technopolis20 in Pafos at 19:30

Language: German (French, Portuguese, Spanish, English) with Greek subtitles

The audience will experience the love between the two German language poets; Austrian Ingeborg Bachmann and Romanian Paul Celan at the screening of the second film “The Dreamed Ones” by Ruth Beckermann, which will first be screened on Tue. 14 Nov. 2017 at Technopolis20 in Pafos at 19:30.

One last screening of the film will take place on Mon. 20 Nov. 2017 at Cine Studio in Nicosia at 21:00.

The short films that qualified for the Austrian Film Award 2017 are touring around the world for the fifth time. Next stop is Cyprus! The programme Austrian Short Film Series 2017
consists of a selection of five different films by Austrian filmmakers with various thematic and aesthetic approaches will be presented at ARTos Foundation, on Wed. 8 Nov. 2017 at 20:00, followed by a wine reception held by the Austrian Ambassador Dr. Eva Maria Ziegler. This programme is a cooperation between the Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs and the Austrian Film Academy.
