Presentation of the prize and the awards of recognition: Dr. Thomas Birtel, CEO STRABAG SE

Duration of the exhibition: 09.06. - 25.08.2017

A catalogue will be published for the exhibition.

In 2017, the STRABAG Artaward will be awarded for the twenty-second time. It was first instituted as an Austrian art prize, initially awarded in Spittal/Drau and later in Vienna. In 2009, the prize was expanded to include international artists. Since then, the prize has been open to artists from Austria as well as from other European countries where STRABAG is active, with a different set of countries selected every three years. Between 2015 and 2017, the prize has been on offer to artists from Austria, the BeNeLux countries, Switzerland and the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. To be eligible for the STRABAG Artaward International, artists from one of the qualifying countries must be under the age of forty and be either a student or a graduate of a recognized art university or academy. Works submitted for the competition must be in the media of painting or drawing. In 2017 applications were received from 546 artists. The eight jury members – including representatives from each participating country – viewed all eligible entries and after extensive discussion and voting the prizewinner and the four recipients of recognition prizes were chosen. The results of the jury´s deliberation will be exhibited at the STRABAG Artlounge (June 9 - August 25, 2017), where the works of the award-winning artists will be shown. The prize money is exceptionally generous: the overall winner receives €15.000 with the winners of the four recognition awards each winning €5.000. In addition, each of these artists will be granted a solo exhibition in the STRABAG Artlounge over the coming year. Moreover the artists are cordially invited to combine this show with a residency in the STRABAG Artstudio.
